Description
Southern Comfort on a Plate is a Southern fried pork chops recipe. These chops are soaked in a buttermilk marinade with a spicy kick, delivering bold flavor and satisfying crunch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ pounds bone-in pork chops
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- Oil for frying (vegetable or peanut oil recommended)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together buttermilk, eggs, and hot sauce. Submerge the pork chops and marinate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
- Mix the flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper in a shallow bowl.
- Remove pork chops from the marinade, letting excess drip off. Dredge in seasoned flour, pressing firmly. For extra crunch, dip again in the marinade and dredge once more.
- Heat about 1 inch of oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C). Maintain heat to ensure even frying.
- Fry pork chops in batches, 4–5 minutes per side, until golden brown and internal temperature hits 145°F (63°C).
- Transfer to a wire rack to rest and keep crispy. Avoid paper towels as they soften the crust.
- Serve hot with classic Southern sides like mashed potatoes, green beans, or biscuits.
Notes
- This dish is perfect for quick dinners or soul food nights.
- Use pantry-friendly ingredients for convenience.
