- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
- Red decorating sugar, for topping
- Green decorating sugar, for topping
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes).
- Add egg and vanilla extract and mix until combined.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix until a dough forms.
- Scoop tablespoon-sized dough balls and place them on the prepared baking sheets.
- Flatten each ball with a fork in a criss-cross pattern.
- Sprinkle tops generously with red or green decorating sugar.
- Bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are set but not browned.
- Let cool on the baking sheet for 2–3 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
