Best Homemade KFC Gravy

- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
- 1 beef bouillon cube
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Salt to taste
- Dash of soy sauce (optional)
- Pinch of paprika (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Gradually whisk in the flour and continue whisking for 4–5 minutes until the roux turns deep golden brown.
- Slowly pour in the chicken broth while whisking continuously to prevent lumps.
- Stir in the beef bouillon cube until dissolved.
- Add onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper. Add soy sauce and paprika if using.
- Simmer for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the gravy thickens.
- Taste and adjust salt or pepper as needed.
- If the gravy is too thick, whisk in a bit more broth or hot water.
- For extra smoothness, strain through a fine mesh sieve.
- Serve hot over mashed potatoes, chicken, fries, or biscuits.
