Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 2 cups cubed French bread or brioche
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup chopped apples
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Brown the breakfast sausage in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread, chopped pecans, chopped apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Add the cooked sausage and toss to combine.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread mixture and stir gently to coat everything. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the liquid.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  6. Pour the Apple Fritter Breakfast Casserole mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  7. Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the casserole is set and golden brown.
  8. While the casserole bakes, whisk together the powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of milk to create a glaze.
  9. Once the Apple Fritter Breakfast Casserole is out of the oven, drizzle the glaze over the top.
  10. Let it cool slightly before serving this delicious Apple Fritter Breakfast Bake.
