Description

These apple fritter bites are warm, soft, and coated with a sweet glaze, offering a taste of the fair at home. They are easy to make without yeast and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 1/2 cups finely diced Honeycrisp or Gala apples
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup + 2 tablespoons apple cider or apple juice

Instructions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the melted butter, sugar, egg, vanilla extract, and applesauce until smooth.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Gently fold in the diced apples to create the apple fritter bite batter.
  4. In a deep frying pan or Dutch oven, heat about 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C). Line a plate with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  5. Using a small cookie scoop or spoon, drop small spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil to make the apple fritter bites.
  6. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through. Remove with a slotted spoon and transfer to the paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Repeat until all batter is used.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk powdered sugar and apple cider together until smooth to make the glaze. Adjust the consistency by adding more apple cider if needed.
  8. Dip each fritter into the glaze or drizzle it over the top. Place them on a wire rack to set for about 5 minutes. These apple fritter bites are now ready.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, add chopped pecans or walnuts to the batter.
  • For a deeper spice flavor, add nutmeg or allspice.
  • For a maple-flavored coating, replace apple cider with maple syrup in the glaze.
  • For a healthier option, bake the fritter bites at 350°F for 12-15 minutes.
  • For a caramel apple effect, drizzle with warm caramel sauce instead of glaze.
  • These apple fritter bites are best enjoyed warm and fresh.
